About EASINGWOLD TOWN BAND.... Return to Home Page

Our Musical Director

Matthew Pilcher has conducted the Band since September 2007. With a strong brass band background, Matthew has played cornet at Championship level. He conducted Ripponden Carriers Band prior to their merger with Huddersfield Brass.

Matthew says: "As a player and soloist I was always encouraged to express myself through my part. As a conductor I get the chance to express the entire piece. I enjoy teaching players and encouraging them to reach their potential. Easingwold Band has a core of players who have shown a dedication and commitment to hold the Band together. I hope to lead the Band in its recovery and make it a well-respected band again."

Our Band Room

The Band owns its own bandroom, which has recently had a complete internal facelift. We've made it a pleasant and welcoming place to rehearse in.

What standard is the Band?

We're a non-contesting band, so we're not graded. Some of our players have long experience of brass band playing, others are less experienced. What brings us together is that we enjoy making music and performing for local audiences. The age range of our players is wide — from school-age to pensioners.

Is there a minimum standard for players?

We don't audition prospective players, but as a guide you'll need to be grade 4 standard or above, and able to read music. Although we can't teach you to play a brass instrument from scratch, we can offer you a friendly and encouraging environment in which to develop your playing.

Can I come along for a blow?

You'll be most welcome. Right now, we're working to build our numbers up to full strength, and we have room for players of all brass band instruments — particularly cornets at the moment, and we're short of trombones and basses too.
